Sewellia lineolata
The Reticulated Hillstream Loach (Sewellia lineolata) is a small, uniquely shaped fish native to the fast-flowing streams and rivers of Southeast Asia, specifically Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Its body is flattened and streamlined, an adaptation to life in strong currents. This hydrodynamic shape, coupled with its large, wing-like pectoral and pelvic fins, allows it to adhere to rocks and navigate swiftly in its natural habitat. The Reticulated Hillstream Loach exhibits a distinctive mottled pattern of dark brown or black against a lighter background, creating a net-like or reticulated appearance. This peaceful species is primarily an omnivore, feeding on algae, biofilm, and small invertebrates. In the aquarium, it requires a well-established environment that mimics its natural habitat, including high water quality, strong water movement, and ample oxygenation. A larger tank is recommended to provide sufficient space and allow for the establishment of a healthy biofilm layer. They prefer cooler water temperatures and are intolerant of high temperatures and poor water conditions.
