Corydoras paleatus
The Peppered Cory Cat (Corydoras paleatus) is a freshwater fish native to the tributaries of larger river systems in South America, including parts of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It is a popular choice for community aquariums due to its peaceful and scavenging nature. The Peppered Cory Cat exhibits a coloration of black and dark green spots scattered across its body, contrasted by a white or pale underside. This species is characterized by its small size and armored body, typical of Corydoras catfish. They are social fish and thrive best in groups. They are active foragers, sifting through the substrate for food particles. A well-planted aquarium with soft substrate and plenty of hiding spots is ideal. They are omnivorous, requiring a varied diet of sinking pellets, frozen foods, and small live foods.
