Xiphophorus maculatus
The Painted Platy, *Xiphophorus maculatus*, is a selectively bred color morph of the common platy, originating from freshwater environments in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. Typically reaching a maximum size of 7 cm, this peaceful fish exhibits a diverse array of colors, often displaying orange, yellow, and black patterns. Its coloration can appear iridescent, giving the impression of having been individually painted. Platies are livebearers, with females giving birth to live young. They are generally peaceful and well-suited for community aquariums. The Painted Platy thrives in planted tanks with a minimum volume of 40 liters. They are omnivorous and will readily accept commercially prepared flake food, as well as live, frozen, or freeze-dried foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. Maintaining stable water parameters is crucial for their well-being.
