Pterophyllum sp.
The Koi Angelfish (Pterophyllum sp.) is a selectively bred color morph of the common angelfish, known for its distinctive mottled black and white coloration, reminiscent of Koi carp. Some individuals may also exhibit gold markings, particularly on the head. Juvenile Koi Angelfish sometimes display a reddish hue beneath the eyes, which typically fades as they mature. Each fish has a unique pattern, making them highly sought after by aquarists. They thrive in well-planted aquariums with soft, slightly acidic water, and require a minimum tank size of approximately 114 liters (30 gallons). While they appreciate the addition of rocks and driftwood for shelter, ample swimming space should be provided. These angelfish are omnivorous, requiring a varied diet consisting of both vegetable matter and meaty foods, such as quality flake food, brine shrimp, and bloodworms.
