Trichogaster chuna
The Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna) is a small, peaceful freshwater fish native to the soft, vegetated waters of India and Bangladesh. It inhabits environments with dense plant life and slightly acidic conditions. Males are typically more vibrant than females, displaying a bright orange-red coloration, especially during breeding when the throat region intensifies and the underside turns black. A selectively bred red variant is also available. Honey Gouramis are known for their calm temperament, making them suitable for community aquariums. They are bubble nest builders, incorporating plant matter into their nests. The male assumes primary parental care duties. Eggs hatch within approximately two days, and fry become free-swimming roughly three days post-hatch.
