Trigonostigma heteromorpha
The Harlequin Rasbora (Trigonostigma heteromorpha) is a popular freshwater fish known for its distinctive appearance and peaceful nature. Native to Southeast Asia, specifically Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, and Thailand, this species inhabits slow-moving streams and rivers. The Harlequin Rasbora is characterized by its copper-orange body and a prominent, triangular black patch extending from the dorsal fin towards the caudal fin base. Males tend to exhibit a more vibrant copper coloration, while females possess a slightly more golden hue and a rounder black patch. Females are also generally larger than males. This rasbora is a schooling fish and thrives in groups of eight or more. They are best kept in well-established, planted aquariums with open swimming areas. An omnivorous species, the Harlequin Rasbora readily accepts prepared flake foods, as well as small live or frozen foods. Optimal water conditions include a temperature range of 23-28°C, a pH between 6.0 and 7.5, and a general hardness (GH) between 5-12 dGH.
