Mikrogeophagus ramirezi
Mikrogeophagus ramirezi, commonly known as the German Blue Ram, is a small, colorful freshwater fish native to the Orinoco River basin in South America. This species is prized for its vibrant coloration and relatively peaceful temperament. The Ram exhibits a laterally compressed body shape with a striking array of colors, including iridescent blues, yellows, and oranges. The dorsal fin is typically elongated and may feature extended rays. Although generally peaceful, they can exhibit territorial behavior, especially during breeding. They thrive in well-maintained aquariums with stable water parameters. A varied diet of high-quality flake food, small granules, and occasional live or frozen foods such as bloodworms and daphnia is recommended. German Blue Rams are best kept in pairs or small groups in a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding places and open swimming areas. Soft, slightly acidic water is ideal for their well-being.
