Danio margaritatus
The Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus) is a small, peaceful freshwater fish native to Myanmar. This species is characterized by its deep metallic blue body adorned with iridescent, pearl-like spots, giving it a striking resemblance to a starlit night. The fins display contrasting orange bands, adding to its visual appeal. Males typically exhibit brighter coloration and a more streamlined body shape, with a more pronounced orange anal fin featuring a black band. Females are generally more subdued in color and have a rounder body form.
Celestial Pearl Danios thrive in well-planted aquariums with plenty of hiding places among rocks, driftwood, and vegetation. They are best kept in schools of six or more individuals to encourage natural social behavior. Suitable tankmates include other peaceful small fish species. As omnivores, their diet consists of small invertebrates, algae and plant matter. In the aquarium, they readily accept high-quality flake food, as well as live and frozen foods such as daphnia, bloodworms, and brine shrimp.
Maintaining a stable environment with clean, well-oxygenated water is crucial for their well-being. Celestial Pearl Danios are relatively easy to care for, making them a suitable choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
