Panaqolus maccus
Panaqolus maccus, commonly known as the Clown Pleco, is a small species of loricariid catfish endemic to the Apuré and Caroní River basins in Venezuela. It exhibits distinctive striped patterns that vary among individuals and can change with age. Reaching a maximum size of approximately 9 cm, this pleco is well-suited for smaller aquariums. Clown Plecos are generally peaceful and adaptable, making them a popular choice for community tanks. They require a diet consisting primarily of wood, supplemented with fresh vegetables and frozen foods. A tank of at least 57 liters is recommended, with soft, slightly acidic water conditions and efficient filtration to manage the waste produced by their diet. While breeding can be achieved in captivity, it necessitates an environment that closely replicates their natural habitat, including the provision of driftwood and caves for shelter.
