Chromobotia macracantha
The Clown Loach (Chromobotia macracantha) is a freshwater fish native to Indonesia, specifically the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. It inhabits rivers and streams with moderate to fast currents. This species is characterized by its vibrant orange body adorned with three black bands. While often described as scaleless, the Clown Loach possesses small, embedded scales. Reaching a maximum size of approximately 30 cm, it requires a spacious aquarium. Clown Loaches are social fish, thriving in groups of five or more. They are active during the day, though they may seek shelter in dimly lit areas with ample hiding places such as caves, plants, and rockwork. They prefer well-oxygenated water with a moderate current. Clown Loaches are omnivorous and readily accept a varied diet consisting of prepared foods, such as flakes and sinking pellets, as well as live or frozen foods like bloodworms and daphnia.
