Puntius titteya
The Cherry Barb (Puntius titteya) is a freshwater fish native to Sri Lanka. It is characterized by its elongated, slender body shape and vibrant coloration. Males, in particular, display a bright cherry-red hue, especially during spawning periods, while females are typically more subdued in color, exhibiting shades of gold to reddish-orange. This species typically reaches a maximum size of approximately 5 cm. Cherry Barbs are generally peaceful and thrive in well-planted community aquariums. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water conditions and benefit from the presence of hiding places such as rocks, driftwood, and dense vegetation. They are omnivorous, readily accepting a varied diet of flake food, small live or frozen foods, and vegetable matter. These fish are shoaling species and should be kept in groups of at least six individuals to encourage natural behavior and reduce shyness.
