Gymnocorymbus ternetzi
The Black Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) is a freshwater fish native to South America, specifically the Paraguay and Guaporé River basins. This species is recognized for its distinctive appearance: a silver body marked with a prominent black bar across its midsection, extending into the elongated anal fin. As they mature, the intensity of the black coloration may fade, particularly in older individuals. Black Tetras are generally peaceful and thrive in groups, making them suitable for community aquariums. They exhibit shoaling behavior and prefer environments with ample vegetation and hiding places, such as rocks and driftwood. They readily accept a varied diet consisting of flake food, small frozen foods, and live foods. Breeding can occur in captivity given appropriate conditions, including slightly acidic water.
